Focusing On The Big Picture To Achieve Your Goal

Excerpt from The Write Prescription: Finding the "Right" Spiritual Dosage to Overcome Any Obstacle

August 22, 2010

Dear Journal,

Last week was very interesting for me. I took my first test. I didn’t do as well as I had thought. I expected to get a similar grade as I would in undergrad. I thought I would be at the top of the class. But that definitely was not the case; I am glad that I passed the test though. I’m not in college anymore. Things will be different and more challenging now that I’m in medical school.

I spoke with one of my closest friends today about my test. He told me that when he began graduate school he had the same issues. He didn’t score as high as he would in college, but after some time he did much better. He eventually adjusted to his new environment. I hope that’s the case for me. The great thing is that at least I know it’s not just me who has had issues with adjusting. I hope I can get things together but I have to remember that P=MD (Passing=Medical Degree).

Food for Thought

Are there times when you feel like you are not good enough? Have you prayed about it?

Think about how you will feel after you do what you think is impossible. It’s an amazing feeling, right? Well, just push a little harder and believe a little more to get you to that point. You can do it! Keep in mind that every step of this journey will not turn out exactly the way that you want it to. Remember the BIG picture. If you are still able to keep moving forward in your journey, then you are on the right track.

Scriptures

And whatever you ask in prayer,

you will receive, if you have faith.

Matthew 21:22 (ESV)

For nothing will be impossible with God.

Luke 1:37 (NIV)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

For by it the elders obtained a good report.

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Hebrews 11:1-3 (KJV)

Be strong and courageous.

Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you.

He will not leave you or forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (ESV)

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way

we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said,

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Acts 20:35 (ESV)

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Prayer for the Day

God, first thank you for this day. You are and have been so very good to me. I am grateful for being here in my current situation. You told me that life won’t always be easy. Even in difficult times I know I will persevere because you are with me. Lend me your strength. Lend me your courage to go on. I can’t do this without you. Don’t let this be a setback for me, but a step up towards the future you have planned for me. Thank you in advance, Lord, for the many blessings you have in store for me.

Amen.
